Tentative Agreements Reached in Negotiations at Wynn LV
May 13, 2007, the Dealers and Dual-Rates at Wynn Las Vegas voted 444 yes to 149 no to become a part of the TWU Dealers Local 721. Contract negotiations are currently underway. We voted for a committee of six, two dealers per shift (day: Kanie Kastroll, Josephine Tang; swing: Daniel Baldonado, Danny Robertson; grave: Hunter Dhue, Marcus Hansel), to represent the dealers.
What you can do right now...
- Be a registered voter in the state of Nevada.
- Sign a TWU membership and dues check off card.
Unions have power in numbers. You voted in the union, so now it's up to you to support it. Show strength with your support.
UPDATE: Caesar's Palace dealers voted YES! to become a part of the TWU!

Q. What will the contract contain?
A. That depends on what you want! The contract will start with our current benefits and build from there. You should have completed a survey outlining what you'd like the contract to contain. Or you can always voice your concerns to one of the members of the contract negotiation committee. Some issues the in-house organizers have deemed important are job security, benefits, and progressive discipline.
Q. Do I have to be a member of the Union?
A. No. Nevada is a "right-to-work" state, meaning that you do not have to belong to the Union if you do not want to. However, we need money to hire appropriate lawyers, lobbyists, etc. so dues are important.
Q. How much are Union dues and how will the money be spent?
A. Dues will be a nominal amount - approximately $50/month. 1/3 of dues will be sent to the national TWU and 2/3 of dues will be kept by Las Vegas Dealers Local 721. We'll decide how to spend our money. No dues will be collected until we've ratified our contract.
Q. Why doesn't wynn want a Union?
A. Right now wynn has all the power. Dealers are paid minimum wage, can be fired on a whim, and can lose benefits or pay without much notice. If we unionize, we will no longer be at the mercy of the company. The casino makes huge profits in gaming revenue and they'd prefer to have total control over gaming employees. |
